Custer County South Dakota Search & Rescue (CCSAR) is a volunteer organization dedicated to training for and providing search, rescue, and other emergency responses to people in and around Custer County. CCSAR works with emergency services agencies including law enforcement, fire departments, and ambulance services in Custer County and surrounding counties.
We are dispatched by the Custer County Sheriff's Office and respond to approximately 90 calls a year, ranging from overdue hikers, wild-land fire evacuations to technical rescues. We also respond to aid other counties that request help for search & rescue missions and wild-land fire evacuations. If you are interested in joining our team, please visit our Become a Member page.
CCSAR is an all volunteer organization that does not receive any compensation for the duties or training that members perform. The only payment that might be received is an occasional thank you and the self satisfaction of helping our community. CCSAR does not charge for rescue or other services. You can help save lives by making a tax-deductible donation through Friends of Custer County Search and Rescue to help defray our operating costs. Visit the Friends of CCSAR page to learn more.
